Nephrology

Information for Patients

Nephrology centre takes care of patients with kidney diseases. We mainly look out for patients with  chronic forms of kidney diseases, such as glomerulonephritis, patients with kidney disease in systemic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, vasculitis and connective tissue diseases, etc.) and patients with congenital kidney problems. We also permanently monitor patients with chronic kidney inflammations of non-infectious origin (kidneys affected by medication, etc.) and also patients with recurrent infections of the kidneys and urinary tract. Patients with kidney stones can go through an examination to find the cause of their problem. We examine and treat patients with high blood pressure, especially if it is caused by kidneys or their blood vessels. We permanently monitor and treat patients with impaired renal function. In case of a kidney failure we offer assistance in selecting the most appropriate methods of renal replacement.

We specially focus on metabolic disorders caused by renal dysfunction. They are e.g. metabolic disorders of calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D, associated with impaired bone metabolism – so-called renal bone disease and kidney induced diseases of thyroid. Other metabolic disorders associated with kidneys can be e.g. impaired fat metabolism, insufficient production of red blood cells, etc.

The examination is non-invasive by using laboratory analysis of blood and urine, ultrasound, CT or MRI.
